Curlis Lake Woods

Curlis Lake Woods (4/24/2016)

This is the first of two Central New Jersey preserves we visited today, the other being the Pole Farm section of Mercer Meadows. One can actually hike from one area to the other, passing Rosedale Lake, but this would add a few miles to the hike. Today we did the section west of the lake (this hike) and then drove (not much more than 5 minutes) to the part south (the Pole Farm hike).

Using this map, we parked in the small area at the kiosk on Lawrenceville-Pennington Road (the map doesn't indicate that parking is possible here, but it is), and did a lollipop, first hiking along Curlis Lake to the open field, the western boundary of the "equestrian area". We then headed south skirting the horse corrals before re-entering the woods and making our way back to the car. This is a surprisingly gorgeous little area, quite varied. If you're looking for a nice 90-minute walk, you can't go wrong!

Total distance hiked was 3 miles in 92 minutes.
