Double D Peak Redux

Double D Peak, Farny State Forest (4/23/2017)

Nearly six years ago we hiked to the point labeled "Double D Peak" on the NYNJTC Trail Map #125. At that point we were able to find a view of trees following very sparse dark blue ribbons on a very wild trail which branches from the blue-blazed loop trail. Today we returned to do that hike once again, but doing parts of it in the reverse direction.

Once again we parked at the huge lot on Splitrock Road, east of the dam, and walked east along that road until we found (near the powerline cut) the crossing of the blue trail. We headed north into the woods. About half-way to the Double D Peak instead of continuing on blue, we took the woods road just east of the reservoir north, skirting the reservoir with some nice views along the way. We then headed east on another unblazed trail (blazed with pink ribbons), before once again reaching blue, which we took to the Double D Peak. This time we saw better views, after a bit of bushwhacking. But we still couldn't find the second vista, denoted on the map by the second star, further NE.

Back on blue, we continued south, taking the woods road (about halfway back to the car) instead of retracing blue. When we reached Splitrock Road we took that back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 6 miles in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
