Hike Name

Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Wildlife Observation Center (2/4/2018)

Because of absolutely freezing temperatures (wind chills well below 0 F), generally bad weather, and family committments, we weren't able to hike the entire month of January! But this morning, another very cold morning, we returned to the Great Swamp for two hikes, covering all of the trails we hadn't done late last year. This is the first hike of the day... and the first of 2018! The last time we hiked the trails in the Wildlife Observation Center area (west of Long Hill Road) was way back in 2009.

Using this map, we parked in the huge dirt lot west of Long Hill Road and then did the southern boardwalk loop first, then continued north to the short boardwalk to the bird blind with the western view of the swamp, then continued north to the roofless bird blind with views north. We then returned to the car and headed to our second hike of the morning.

Total distance hiked today was 2.1 miles in 85 minutes.
