Lost Lake

Lost Lake, Rockaway River WMA (10/9/2013)

I hiked this beautiful, rugged area just five months ago when we did an elaborate mix of woods roads and blazed trails to and from Lost Lake. Today I returned with my friend Andy to do a shorter version (about 5.4 miles) cutting out some of the smaller loops that we did last time.

Once again I parked at the Saffin Rock-Rill Area and headed NE on Yellow, winding north, then north and then continuing on the woods road NE (instead of continuing east on Yellow) until we reached the nothern bank of Lost Lake (our lunch spot last time). We then continued in a SE direction on the white-blazed Beaver Brook trail all the way to the southern bank of the lake, where we had lunch, a spectacular spot. After lunch we continued east on White, took the powerline cut 0.1 miles NW to another woods road which we in the NW direction. At the intersection with White we headed west until we once again reached the woods right from earlier in the day. This we took all the way back west to Yellow which we took back to the car.

After the amazing fall foliage I saw just a few days ago at Ryker Lake I expected something amazing. But the weather was very windy over the past couple of days and the amount of leaves still on the trees wasn't as impressive as it had been days ago.

Total distance hiked today was 5.4 miles in 3.5 hours.
