Liberty State Park

Liberty State Park (6/5/2010)

Though technically not what many would consider a "hike" (you won't see many trees or lakes, or climb any hills), this walk is one of the hikes included in the book Hiking New Jersey: A Guide to 50 of the Garden State's Greatest Hiking Adventures (1st edition). It's hike #48 ("Liberty State Park"), and it is quite spectacular in its own way. The first third includes a small walk through a nature area, and then a stroll through the heart of Liberty Park which passes the beautiful Columbus Monument, and then continues through the pretty Remembrance Grove (where a stone bears the names of every New Jerseyan who died on 9/11). The second third includes a walk through the marina at the Morris Canal Big Basin before joining the Liberty Walk at the historic CRRNJ Terminal. The last third continues along the Liberty Walk for a spectacular mile and a half that affords constant views of the Hudson River, lower Manhattan, Ellis Island and Lady Liberty.

Total mileage today was 5 miles in about 3 hours.
