It's been a few years since we climbed Point Mountain, the last time we approached from the south. This time we climbed it from the north,
following the description for Hike #22 ("Point Mountain") in 50 Hikes in New Jersey
(4th edition, 2014), a book which contains fourteen of my own photos in color (though not in this chapter). In addition to the hike described in the
book, we first added the small part of the Blue trail west of Point Mountain Road which can be seen on
this map. This
hike has just about everything, including a beautiful rugged walk on the bank of a river (the Musconetcong River), a cornfield, and an amazing view
over the farmlands of western New Jersey. The very steep ascent at the end is also exciting, especially on icy rocks!
Total distance hiked today was 3.4 miles in approximately 2.5 hours.
