Schick, North

Schick Reserve, Northern Section (11/2/2014)

In mid-September we visited this reserve and hiked just about every trail south of Schick Road accessible from the parking area on Schick Road. Today we returned to hike almost all the rest of the reserve.

We once again followed this map. This time we parked in the large lot on Little York-Mt. Pleasnt Road and walked just about every trail between the parking area and Schick Road and everything north of Schick Road. Like the other part, it's a big sprawling reserve with rolling hay fields and pictureseque farm silos. As a bonus we got some last glimpses of this season's fall foilage. It was so windy today that it felt as if we were watching the foliage disappear before our eyes. Laura's brand new blindingly-red jacket really fit in with the color scheme! It was also the coldest hike of the season so far. When we hit the trail at 9 AM with the wind chill it felt like it was in the upper 20s F. it didn't get much better nearly three hours later when we returned to the car.

Total distance hiked was 5.2 miles in 2 hour and 45 minutes.
