Schick Reserve, South

Schick Reserve, Southern Section (9/14/2014)

Today we visited another Hunterdon County reserve off the Route 78 corridor. Hunting season has started and this reserve (along with the other reserves in the county) is open for hunting. Playing it safe we decided to head here on a Sunday when there is no hunting basically anywhere in New Jersey. Following this map we parked in the lot off Schick Road and walked just about every trail south of Schick Road. It's an interesting mixture of open fields with mowed lanes along the perimeters, and a nice stretch in deep woods. Apparently this area is popular with equestrians. There is a stable between the southern and northern sections (between Schick Road and Little York-Mount Pleasant Road) and there were two women trotting around the open fields near the parking area when we were returning to the car.

Total distance hiked was exactly 4 miles in 2.5 hours. Having only done the southern half we plan on returning soon to do the northern half.
