This is the Hike of the
Week for
7/4/2002 as described on the NY-NJ Trail Conference website. We hiked in this beautiful area, adjacent to the Great Swamp National Park, just over five
years ago. This morning there was a slight fog hanging over the swamp when we got there, but the sun soon burnt it off. It's a nearly level ramble, much of
which takes place on sturdy boardwalks. The presence of boardwalks would lead one to believe that it was an easy walk, but it had rained the previous day,
leaving a fine residue of water on the boards, making it surprisingly slippery! We nearly slipped off the boardwalk in a couple of places! But it only added
to the fun.
Total distance hiked today was about 3.6 miles in about 2 hours. (Click on the thumbnail to bring up a bigger image in a pop-up window)
