This is Hike #21 ("Stony Man Trail") in the book
Hiking Shenandoah National Park, Third Edition.
This was the last of seven hikes we did during our five-night stay in Luray, Virginia. This enchanting hike to the top of the second highest peak in the
park includes an interpretive trail with twenty stops that can be followed via a guide book that can be purchased at the trail head (for a $1 donation, on the
honor system). About a half of this hike is on the AT, and it is on this hike where the AT passes its highest point in the entire Shenandoah National Park.
Surprisingly, it isn't at the incredible vista, but a good deal lower.
