Four Corners Pond

Four Corners Pond, Sterling Forest (4/10/2020)

While New Jersey has closed all county and state parks, New York State continues encouraging outdoor recreation within the limits of social distancing. Luckily Sterling Forest is still open, so back we headed this morning to log trails that we never did before. I picked an area that I thought no one would be using, and I picked right! We didn't see another person or car the entire time! Yay!

Using the NYNJTC Map #100 for Sterling Forest, we parked at pull-off P6 on Ironwood Drive and headed south, through a gate onto a woods road. We first headed east on the woods road which parallels Ironwood Drive, then headed south on another road to reach the western bank of Four Corners Pond. Backtracking to near the gate we next headed south along another woods road, crossing the powerline cut and continuing west, then a bit north to the bank of a beautiful swamp (not named on the map). Next we backtracked to the powerline cut, and then headed north in the cut to another woods road which we took north. But before reaching the car, we traveled on a nice woods road (not on the map), to a rocky stream and another access point to the powerline cut. If all of this sounds impossible to follow, especially if you don't have the NYNJTC map in front of you, I don't blame you! Unfortunately, the iPhone app I've been using for nearly 10 years (Motion-X GPS) decided just a few days ago that they would no longer support users sharing their tracks online, something I've been doing for years. Oh well. But all is not lost. You can click here for a screenshot of the track.

Total distance hiked today was 3.9 miles in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
