5 Ponds Loop

5 Ponds Loop, Ringwood State Park (4/18/2021)

It's been nearly 10 years since we visited this large, beautiful hiking area, and that was just three weeks after Hurricane Sandy where blowdowns littered the trails. After recently discovering the existence of a brand new 5-mile loop that visits five ponds using previously unblazed trails and woods roads, we decided to head out on this gorgeous spring day to give it a go. And the bugs were out in force, one of the curses of warm-weather hiking.

Using this map, we parked in dirt lot C, and took the entire pink-blazed loop in a clockwise direction, visting first Swan Pond, then a nice view north, then Glasmere Ponds, then Weyble Pond, then Brushwood Pond and finally Gatun Pond. It's been so long that we can't remember which of these ponds we already visited, but I'm pretty sure this was the first time for some of them. It's a beautiful loop. And all you have to do is follow pink the entire way!

Total distance was 4.8 miles in just over 2.5 hours.
