New Wawayanda Lake

New Wawayanda Lake, Kittatinny Valley State Park (7/28/2019)

It's been a few years since we visited this beautiful area, albeit one near a small airport with the frequent sound of airplanes taking off and landing. We decided to return today to do a loop that we did back in June of 2014, marred by a bicycle race that took place on the very trails we hiked. Today there was no race and it was much more pleasant and peaceful.

Using this map, we parked at the park office off of Goodale, headed behind the building making a right on the Raccoon trail, then continuing on the white-blazed Glacial trail, along the bank of the New Wawayanda Lake until we got to the Aeroflex-Andover Airport. Here we took some park roads west to the red-blazed Andover Junction trail. We took this south all the way to the Sussex Branch rail trail. We took this north to the blue-blazed Limestone trail, which we took north all the way back to the car, eating lunch first at one of the shady picnic tables at the park building.

Total distance hiked today was 5 miles in just under three hours.
