Deer Park Pond Loop

Deer Park Pond, Allamuchy Mountain State Park (1/17/2021)

Just about a year ago we hiked a loop around Deer Park Pond in this beautiful park. Today we returned to hike a similar loop, though not quite, and in the opposite direction.

Once again we parked in the large dirt lot at the eastern end of Deer Park Road and started the hike by taking the white-blazed Deer Path Trail. This trail we took north all the way to where it kind of connects with the blue-blazed Lake View trail. I say "kind of" because it requires a very short walk on a well worn, though unblazed trail. Once on blue we took that east along the south bank of the beautiful Deer Park Pond. A prominent beaver lodge was located very close to the trail. At the southeastern tip of the pond we headed south on the white trail once again. This we took to just before it connects again with blue (we found a short unblazed connecting trail south). Heading south on blue, we continued on the wide woods road all the way back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 4.9 miles in two hours and 40 minutes.
