AT: Park Office-Long House Drive

AT, Park Office-Long House Drive, Wawayanda State Park (10/17/2020)

We returned to Wawayanda State Park for the second week in a row, to check out the fall foliage on a section of the Appalachian Trail that we still hadn't done.

Using the map on the second page of this NYNJTC pamphlet we parked in the lot at the park office (denoted by the P just west of the park entrance on Warwick Turnpike). We headed north into the woods on the blue-blazed William Hoeferlin trail to the AT, which we took east, skirting the bank of beautiful Parker Pond. We continued east along the AT until we reached Long House Drive. At this point we turned around and retraced out steps back to the car.

Fall foliage is nearing peak from what we were able to see, and the leaf drop on the forest floor is quite high. We're not sure how many more weekends of foliage we're going to get, so hit the trails to enjoy it before it's all gone.

Total distance today was 3.9 miles in 2 hours and 45 minutes.
