Blue Mountain Lake

Blue Mountain Lake, Delaware Water Gap NRA (5/31/2021)

We last hiked this area sixteen years ago. Was it really that long ago? Back then I believe that many of the trails were unblazed, though I can't recall exactly. After such a long time, we decided to head back, and we're glad we did.

Once again, following this NYNJTC hike and parked in the large dirt lot on Blue Mountain Lakes Road. We headed into the woods on Red-Blue, and then stayed on Red, skirting the bank of beautiful Blue Mountain Lake. A family of Canada geese greeted us, eight goslings and all. Just north of the northern bank we turned right on Blue-Red, climbing a bit, next turning left and continue NE on Blue, a woods road which is very straight, though has slight ups and downs. After passing a lovely swamp on the left, we reached Green, where we first turned left to get a nice view over Hemlock Pond. Then we did Green in a counter-clockwise direction, taking in the view of the lake from the northern side, before continuing SW on Blue. At the fork between Blue and Blue-Red, we continued a bit on Blue to reach Indian Rocks. a nice viewpoint on an unmarked spur. Then we backtracked to Blue-Red, before finally turning right on Red, heading west, high above the northern bank of Blue Mountain Lake. We took Red all the way back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 5.4 miles in two hours and 49 minutes.
