Burnt Meadow Loop

Burnt Meadow Loop, Long Pond Ironworks State Park (10/23/2021)

We have hiked along the ridges of Horse Pond Mountain and Long Hill at least twice in the past. We returned today to see the fall foliage, and to hike the newly-blazed Burnt Meadow Loop, which incorporates much of the existing trails which were previously blazed different colors, into a green-blazed loop, half on the eastern side of Burnt Meadow Road, and half on the western side.

Using this map, we parked on Burnt Meadow Road at the southern crossing of the green-blazed loop. While there is a P placed further north on Burnt Meadow Road, where the green loop crosses the road near the powerline cut, we couldn't see any viable place to partk at that crossing.

We took the loop in a counter-clockwise direction, first climbing to Horse Pond Mountain and taking in the spectactular view of Monk's Mountain surrounded by Monksville Reservoir. At the northern tip of the loop we crossed Burnt Meadow Road, and continued the loop climbing up Long Hill, where there is a partial, mostly obstructed view facing east. At the end of the loop was the kiosk, and our car.

Total distance today was 2.4 miles in two hours and 50 minutes.
