Carris Hill

Carris Hill, Norvin Green State Forest (9/21/2019)

It's been a while since we visited Norvin Green State Forest in northern New Jersey, so we returned this weekend to hike Carris Hill for the fourth time. This was actually one of the first hikes we did when we started this website back in 2005. Since that hike we have returned to this hill in 2007, 2013 and today.

Using this map, we parked in the pull-off on Glenwild Avenue (Route 700 on the map), just north of Lake Kampfe. We took the yellow trail north to the blue trail which we took east. Continuing east on white past Chikahoki Falls (which weren't falling, not a single drop of water), we headed north on yellow climbing relentlessly past several viewpoints before reaching the peak. We then headed south on the blue trail, and returned back to the car the same way we came in. You can see in the photos that fall foliage is making an early appearance in parts of this forest. The colors were just beginning.

Total distance hiked today was 4 miles in just over three hours.
