Autumn Great Swamp

Autumn Great Swamp (10/29/2022)

After dodging COVID for nearly three years, Laura and I both got it, right at the beginning of fall foliage! We were thinking that we were going to miss peak foliage in our area, but after testing negative, and feeling much better, we both trekked out this morning to our closest national park, the Great Swamp! We love this place. It's been about five years since we hiked these trails. Today the colors were glorious.

Using the middle map on the second page of this document, we parked at the end of Whitebridge Road (a large gravel lot) and headed NE into the swamp. We followed Orange all the way to its end at the gravel lot at the end of Meyersville Road. Retracing out steps we headed west on Green, then the Beige spur, which had the most striking yellow foliage of the entire hike. Retracing our steps on Beige, we continued south, then west on Green, back to Orange. We continued south on Orange, all the way back to the car, skipping the Silver spur, because we were feeling a bit tired and didn't want to push our post-COVID recovery.

Total distance hiked today was 4.7 miles in just under 3 hours.
