Bearfort Fire Tower

Bearfort Fire Tower, Newark Watershed (6/13/2020)

We returned to the Newark Watershed for the fourth week in a row, to do a hike we did eight years ago, but in the opposite direction.

We parked at P2, a small pull-off on Clinton Road and headed into the woods on the yellow-blazed Fire Tower West trail, making a right on the blue connector trail and then taking the red-white Fire Tower Ridge trail all the way north to the fire tower. Along the way, we did the small blue-blazed connector as an out and back. We saw three mountain bikers at the tower, but they were the only people we saw the entire morning. After our short stop at the fire tower, we continued south on the yellow Fire Tower West trail, which took us all the way back to P2 and our car.

Total distance hiked today was 5 miles in three hours and 15 minutes. A permit is required for hiking in this area, which can be purchased at the office on Echo Lake Road.
