Gnome Hollow & Paulinskill

Gnome Hollow Preserve & Paulinskill Valley Trail (5/24/2015)
Earlier this month, Daniela and Shawnee hiked this preserve, using this map. I had never heard of it before and was more intrigued by the name than anything else! Daniela warned me that since the vegetation was blooming, and that there really weren't any trails, per se, just walking from one blaze to another, that the sooner we went the better. So off we headed today, using the same map.

We, like Daniela, also had trouble finding the connector trail between Gnome Hollow and the rail trail. But with my iPhone and GPS we were able to bushwhack back and forth without any problems. It's a lovely little spot, and today it was exploding in greens. This stretch of the rail trail is also apparently very popular with horses. We saw nearly as many horses as walkers! And we saw two turtles (right near each other) in the preserve! That was two more turtles than hikers, since we didn't see another soul in the preserve. If you want isolation, this is the place to go. And the parking lot is big enough for at least 10 cars! Our car was the only one there at the beginning and at the end.

Total distance hiked today was 6 miles in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
