Great Piece Meadows Preserve
I spotted this interesting-looking area when looking for something on Google Maps. A Google search yielded a bit more information. Apparently a 3.2-mile fire road cut through from one end to the other. That was enough for us, so we took the day off (after a busy church weekend), and headed out here, not knowing quite what to expect.

Using the Gaia GPS app on our cell phone, we hiked the entire fire road from its southern end at the gate on Park Avenue (no, it's nowhere near like the Park Avenue of Manhattan) all the way to where it nearly touches Route 80, at the western end of Marginal Road (and it was marginal). At this point we turned back and retraced our steps. The fire road is more like 3.4 miles, by not just the app, but by both of our Apple Watches.

The area reminds me a bit of the Hyper Humus marshes. We did see water birds, but the tract of water, resembling a narrow canal, which we hiked along during the entire extent, is too narrow and close to the trail. Most of the birds that were in it were scared away as we approached. Still, it's a beautiful area and we will surely go back. And we didn't see another person the entire time.

Total distance covered today was 6.8 miles in about 3 hours and 15 minutes.
