After missing a month of hiking due to the allergy season from Hell, as well as other ailments that required doctor visits for the both of us, we finally returned to the trails today
to explore, for the fifth time, one of my favorite places on the planet, the Hyper Humus Marshes near Lafayette, New Jersey. With a temperture in the low 70s, and a cool breeze, it
couldn't have been a better day. We saw lots of birds and other animals. What we realized once again was that each time we visit, nature seems to have taken over more of the trails
and there are less and less to walk. There's still enough here to spend at least a couple of leisurely hours. But today the path to the rail trail was flooded (the first time in our
five visits). And the path to the western side of the lakes is more flooded than ever, so we haven't been on the other side for at least two years, and probably won't be ever again.
It's still an amazing place to visit, one of the most serene places in New Jersey.
Total distance hiked was 3.7 miles in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
