Kay Envionmental Center Loop

Kay Environmental Center Loop (7/14/2019)

We have hiked at and around the Kay Environmental Center several times over the years, in all seasons. But it's been a while, so we returned today on a relatively hot day to hike a few trails that we haven't done in the past, but to also repeat a loop which includes a gorgeous, though short, walk along the bank of the beautiful Black River. Today the river was raging.

Using this map, we parked at the Environmental Center, visited the Butterfly Garden, then did a few of the unblazed field trails southeast before taking the blue-blazed Patriot's Path trail south. When we met the red trail we turned right and headed north along it, first climbing and then descending to the bank of the Black River. We continued on Red until we got to Orange. Here we turned right heading south, then turned left on Yellow heading north. We took Yellow north, then east, then south again back to Orange, skirting the beautiful field filled with wild flowers and butterflies. Finally we took the Patriot's Path back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 4.5 miles in just over three hours.
