Mountainside Park

Mountainside Park (11/4/2018)

The moment we stepped out of the car, we knew that this was going to be the fall foliage hike for 2018. And it sure was! The colors were at peak today, and the weather couldn't have been better. The explosions of red, orange and yellow, backlit by the sun, made for some really beautiful photos. This was the third time we visited this amazing, rugged "park". The last two times were in 2010 and 2012, when no official trail map was available. Today we returned and did a few of the trails that we hadn't done before.

Using this map, we first headed west, then north on the Red trail. At its intersection with Orange, we took Orange north, then east, passing through the gasline cut (here Orange comingles with Red and then Yellow). Near the northern area of the park we made a left on White, which we climbed to the viewpoint. After admiring the views, with some spectacular colors, we headed south on Blue, then Orange, then Blue again, which we took back south to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 3.4 miles in 2 hours and 45 minutes, with lots of climbing.
