Munsee-Eagle Trail, North

Munsee-Eagle Trail, North, Sterling Forest (4/25/2020)

Two weekends ago we hiked a lollipop which incorporated the southern half of the Munsee-Eagle trail which is located west of Eagle Mountain. Today we returned to do the northern section.

Using the NYNJTC Map #100 for Sterling Forest, we parked at the Caretaker Lot on CR 84 (Long Meadow Road) and headed east on the red-blazed Hutchinson Trail. We had intended to then head east on the Munsee-Eagle trail but accidentally continued a bit further south on the Hutchinson before realizing our error (this added a bit of mileage to the total below). Realizing our error, we backtracked to the northern trailhead of the Munsee-Eagle, which we took east through the powerline cut and then south. We hiked all the way south to the point where we turned back two weeks ago. At this point we turned back, but instead of following blue all the way back to the car, on the northern arc we took a woods road for about 0.4 miles back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 5.8 miles in nearly 3 hours and 15 minutes.
