Oregon - Day 4

Oregon - Day 4 (7/14/2007)

We did more driving on this day than any other. After buffet breakfast at our hotel in Cascade Locks, in the northern part of the state, we drove at least 270 miles to Wolf Creek, in the southern part. Most of the driving was on I-84 west (towards Portland) and then I-5 south. We checked into the gorgeous historical Wolf Creek Inn, the oldest continuous use hotel in Oregon, and now also a designated State Park. We stayed in Room 9 (the suite) which once hosted Clark Gable and Carol Lombard as well as Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. Fredric March most likely also stayed there, as well as Orson Welles. We had lunch at the Inn and then headed to Golden, an abandoned mining town just outside of town. Dinner was in Grant's Pass, 19 miles southeast. The vegetarian burritos as Taqueria Mexica were wonderful.
