Oregon - Day 7

Oregon - Day 7 (7/17/2007)

Today we hiked all day. After breakfast at Beckie's Café at the Union Creek "Resort", we headed to Crater Lake. We drove all the way to the Rim Village Gift Shop and Café and grabbed some Middle Eastern salads to eat between hikes. Our first hike of the day was up to the peak of Mount Scott, the highest point (nearly 9,000 feet) in Crater Lake National Park. After eating lunch we drove counter-clockwise around the crater to Cleetwood Cove and hiked down to the cove, the only area where you can actually get to the water of the crater. Continuing our counter-clockwise drive around the crater, we stopped at the Crater Lake Lodge for coffee (me) and hot chocolate (Laura). Our last hike was within the beautiful Castle Crest Wildflower Garden. We drove back to our cabin, visiting the Natural Bridge site at the Rogue River, and then headed for dinner at Prospect Pizza in Prospect, about 11 miles away. The veggie pizza we had was phenomenal. After dinner, we hiked a bit on the Old Growth trail in the Rogue River Nation Forest (the trailhead was right behind our cabin).
