Panther Mountain

Panther Mountain, Harriman State Park (4/27/2018)

We climbed this mountain eight year ago, almost to the day. At that time we parked in the Ramapo equestrian center and approached from the west. Today we parked in the dirt lot on Diltzes Lane and approached from the east, taking an unblazed trail that we hadn't done in the past (the lower of the two as seen on the NYNJTC Harriman maps), and then taking a segment of the yellow-blazed Suffern-Bear Mountain trail which we also had never done before. We made a right on the red-blazed Tuxedo-Mt. Ivy trail and took that back to the car. The views from the top of Panther Mountain were beautiful.

We had planned on continuing on the yellow, to visit another viewpoint, and then return on the Red Arrow trail. But we were running out of time, so we had to cut it short. Total distance hiked today was 3.9 miles in just under three hours with a good amount of climbing.
