Pine Meadow Loop

Pine Meadow Loop, Sterling Forest (5/16/2020)

2020 is turning into a Sterling Forest hiking year. Today we did a loop using the Pine Meadow trail, incorporating the northern-most stretch of the Sterling Lake Loop trail (which skirts the northern tip of the lake). We parked at the trailhead between P10 and the Caretaker Lot on CR84 and headed west on the Pine Meadow Loop. This we took all the way north to the Sterling Valley Loop trail which we took south to lake, following the aforementioned Sterling Lake Loop trail. We took that west all the way to where the Valley trail neads north and the Lake Loop trail heads south. Then we retraced out steps on the Lake Loop taking that all the way back to the orange Pine Meadow Connector trail, which we took back east to the car.

The highlight today was the small out-and-back along the unblazed trail on the small isthmus which juts into the lake at the northern tip. The views from here are beautiful.

Today we hiked about 6 miles in less than three hours.
