Ramapo Lake Lollipop

Ramapo Lake Lollipop, Ramapo State Forest (6/25/2021)

Last month I hiked this park with my friend Matt. Today I returned with Laura to hike an area that we haven't hiked in nearly 17 years!

Using this map, we parked in the lower lot on the western side of Skyline Drive and headed west into the woods on the black-dot on blue trail. At the southern bank of Ramapo Lake, we headed west on the blue trail, and then picked up the red trail, taking that southwest, climbing. There are several viewpoints along this segment, none of which are shown on the park map. We continued south on the red-blue trail, reaching the vista on the map, and then finding an opening through a chain link fence to a spectacular view of IS-287 from above. Continuing north on red-blue, we once again reached the souther bank of the lake. Here we continued on the co-mingled blue and Cannonball trail, continuing on blue on the northern bank. We continued along the bank of the lake in a clockwise direction, finally reaching the black-dot on blue trail, which we took at the way back to the car.

Total distance was 4.5 miles just under 3 hours. It was a very varied hike.
