Stony Brook Mountains

Stony Brook Mountains, Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area (1/12/2020)

We have hiked this area of Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area twice in the past, but the Purple trail, which leads to Stony Brook, didn't exist during either of those past visits. So today we returned to do a short hike which incorporated that new trail.

Using this map, we parked in the lot on Kincaid Road (box E4 on the map) and headed east into the woods on the yellow-blazed Kincaid Trail. At the fork, we made a right and headed south along the Yellow-Black dot blazed trail before reaching the new purple trail. This we took southwest all the way to Stony Brook. This area is private property, which is too bad, because there was a bridge that crossed the brook and white blazes on the other side. But not wanting to trespass, we turned back, retracing purple, then continuing on the Yellow-Blck dot trail until we reached the Yellow trail. Here we turned left continuing north before returning to the other segment from earlier, which we took back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 3.3 miles in two and a quarter hours.
