Silas Condict, North

Silas Condict County Park, Northern Section (8/12/2018)

This is the third week in a row in this Morris County park, not very far from our house. This year has been filled with non-hiking responsibilities, and with the weather being too rainy and too hot on most of the days when we have had time, we haven't been able to do as many hikes as we have in years past. We were once again forced to keep it close and short this weekend. The humidity this morning was opressive. This gave us a good excuse to finish most of the rest of the trails in the northern part of this park.

Unlike the last two visits, this time we parked as far north as we could, right at the trailhead for the Blue and Red trails. We headed north, into the forest, on Blue, passing picnic stations (that must be reserved), taking a path east just before the vista stars on the park map. We lost the path almost immediately, so we headed back to the gravel path and continued north to the viewpoint, then a bit further north until the trail disappeared. We retraced our steps back to the southern trailhead, then took Red to the black dashed path on the map (unblazed). We took this west, searching for the vista, but could find none. I think it's now overgrown. Continuing south on Red, we took a small lollipop along the western bank of Canty's Lake before heading back north of the casino and back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 2.1 miles in about 80 minutes. Wow, was it humid!
