Sterling Valley Loop East

Sterling Valley Loop East, Sterling Forest (3/8/2020)

Spring is just around the corner. We could feel it! Today we returned to Sterling Forest to log another trail segment that we hadn't hiked before. When we started today, the temperature was in the upper 30s, but 2.5 hours later it was in the upper 60s!

Today we returned to the same parking lot P7, a circular cul-de-sac at the end of Ironwood Drive. We walked east on Ironwood for 0.1 of a mile to reach the trailhead for the yellow-blazed Sterling Valley Loop trail. This trail is one of the most beautiful we have hiked in this area! We took it all the way to the narrow land bridge at the northern tip of Sterling Lake. Then we turned back and retraced our steps. There are some beautiful views of the swamp and pond north of Sterling Lake, complete with beaver lodges. And the best thing about being in the forest... no coronavirus hysteria! No fighting over toilet paper! The forest is never closed! So turn off the TV and get out into the woods!

Total distance hiked today was 4.3 miles in about 2.5 hours.
