Turkey Mountain

Turkey Mountain, Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area (5/13/2018)

The second hike we did in the age of digital photography was on Turkey Mountain, way back in 2004. I had just gotten my first digital camera and was eager to try it out. So we drove to one of the closest places to our home and meandered around a bit. That was before I owned a single hike book. Since then we have gone on hundreds of hikes in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. And I took my camera on nearly every one of them, and they are all represented here on my website, which has been a real labor of love.

Hundreds of hikes and tens of thousands of photos later, we returned to hike Turkey Mountain once again, and it seems to have changed so much that I barely remember it! Using this map, we parked at the visitor's center lot, crossed the road and did a loop, combining parts of the yellow, red, white, green and blue trails, visiting ruins, quarries and viewpoints along the way. It rained quite hard the last 30 minutes, but it was a delight in any event.

Total distance hiked today was just 4.5 miles in just over three hours. You can see our track here.
