Twin Lakes & Lakeside Trails

Twin Lakes & Lakeside Trails, Teatown Lake Reservation (9/25/2016)

Today we returned to Westchester County after not having hiked here since March of 2010! And it was the first time we visited this beautiful reservation. We will surely return. We just wish it were a bit closer to our home. Today we did a figure-8, with the parking area in the middle.

After parking in the lot at the beautiful visitor's center on Spring Valley Road (defintely worth a visit), we crossed the road and did the newly-blazed Twin Lakes trail. Older maps of this area (including the free map from the NYNJTC and the official park map for sale for $2 inside the visitor's center) have the old trails for this area south of the road. But there is a free map of the new Twin Lakes trail at the center, as well as here. We did the loop in the counter-clockwise direction. The views of Vernay and Shadow Lake are lovely. They must be gorgeous during fall foliage season. Returning to the parking area we continued behind the visitor's center on the Lakeside trail, which follows the bank of Teatown Lake, in a clockwise direction. This trail also has spectacular views and can be seen on the official, but out-of-date, park map here.

Total distance hiked today was 4.6 miles in about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
