Wildcat Mountain

Wildcat Mountain, Sterling Forest (3/28/2020)

It's been over twelve years since we climbed Wildcat Mountain in Sterling Forest. And back in 2008 we started from the southern trailhead of the Wildcat Mountain trail. Today we returned to climb it once again, but this time from the nothern trailhead, on a segment that we had never hiked before.

We parked at the northern trailhead of the Wildcat Mountain trail, on Hall Drive. We headed south on the white Wildcat Mountain trail, co-mingled here with the orange-green Townsend trail. After visiting the small reservoir west of where the trails part, we continued south on white until we reached the viewpoint which overlooks Routh 17 and Route 87. There is an earlier viewpoint noted on the NYNJTC Map for Sterling Forest, which apparently looks east. We couldn't find it. It's either no longer there, or this is a typo on the map. After taking in the view, we retraced our steps back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 4.1 miles in 2 hours and 50 minutes, with alot of climbing.
