West Valley Loop

West Valley Loop, Sterling Forest (3/21/2020)

Out of the last six hikes, five have been in Sterling Forest. It seems that our first hiking project of 2020 is to cover as many trails in this beautiful state park that we can. So today we returned to hike another two trail segments that we hadn't hiked before.

We parked in lot P9, the West Valley Trailhead and headed south along the green-blazed West Valley trail, a segment that we hadn't done previously. At the powerline cut we made a left and climbed steeply east to reach the blue-blazed Sterling Ridge trail, which we took south, visiting various amazing vistas along the way. When we reached the orange-blazed Bare Rock trail we turned right, heading west. At the intersection with the West Valley trail we headed south before reaching the spot where the co-mingled orange trail heads west. Then we headed north, taking the West Valley trail all the way back to the car.

Total distance hiked today was 4.7 miles in just under 3 hours, with a good amount of climbing.
