Will Monroe Lollipop

Will Monroe Lollipop, Norvin Green State Forest (3/26/2022)
We last hiked the Will Monroe loop almost ten years ago. At that time, we worked in a loop to the east. This time, I mapped out a path which used many of the woods roads west of the Will Monroe loop. But it started raining steadily about 90 minutes in, at about 10:30 AM (it wasn't supposed to rain until the afternoon), so we cut it short, following much of what we did last time, without the loop east.

Using the map on page 2 of this brochure from the NYNJTC, we parked across from Boy Scout Lake on Snake Den Road, and headed south along the road, catching the red-blazed trail to the pink-blazed Will Monroe loop. We climbed to the spectacular views over the peaks of Norvin Green, with the Manhattan skyling in the distance. We next continued on the yellow trail, making a right on a woods road, and then a right on another woods road (both shown as red-dashed trails on the map), before reaching red once again, the lollipop stick, which we took back to the car.

Total distance covered today was 2.7 miles in about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
